After the nuclear power plant explosion Chernobyl people were evacuated. Local inhabitants thought that they would come back in 2-3 days. Management told them to take a minimum number of items and documents. In addition, they asked not to take their pets. Naturally, none of the residents was allowed to back into the evacuation zone. In fact, it was forbidden by order of the authorities and the epidemiological station because all the Chernobyl animals affected from radiation. Pets, especially those who were on the street, received large doses of radiation. The dogs, that were being abandoned by the people, at first, were running after the buses, which took them from their former owners. Then, they fall behind and were forced to come back to the city. Because of the hunger, the dogs, especially large breeds, ate all smaller animals (cats and small dogs). Then, they began to behave aggressively towards humans. Dogs began to stray from the pack and tried to attack men. In connection with the situation, the government resolved to shoot all pets. The liquidators told how was in real (like from “Chernobyl diaries animals”). After lunch, they saw near the dining room ginger mongrel wagging his tail. They fed it. The next day, there were several dogs, they were of different breeds and frankly afraid to approach the porch during the day. A couple of days, the workers came to the dining room, and the situation went on the rise. While the workers did not receive the ration, the area was deserted. After the arrival of food trucks, from all sides, as the shadows, the dogs appeared silently. They gathered and waited when the soldiers “cleaned their pots” on the concrete porch. It was not only mongrels but also shepherd dogs, lapdogs, etc.
The liquidators were surprised at how the animals are organized themselves:
- the familiar mongrel sat ahead;
- behind her, the dogs surrounded the car with the food in a wide semicircle. They were very large breeds: the marble Dogs, the German Shepherds, and so on;
- very smoothly, keeping a distance of about seven meters from the first semi-circle, the terriers and the spaniels sat and stared without blinking;
- the small dachshunds and the lapdogs formed the third circle;
- in the distance, the cats flashed in the bushes near the houses on the opposite side of the square.
After a few days, all over the road, there were people in uniforms with a double-barreled shotgun. They went on the streets and came into each yard. Shots rang out. No one else came out to the porch. No one will not come back to live in this place, except the birds.
The irradiated animals Chernobyl
Let us try to answer on two main question:
- Are there any animals affected by Chernobyl crash?
- If compare Chernobyl red forest animals and beasts from other Chernobyl zone, are they different?
The observations of animals that live in Chernobyl shows: after the initial sharp fall in the number, the radiation is almost no impact on the health of the population as a whole. However, based on the foreign studies, it is worth noting that some scholars followed negative influence on the organism of animals. For example, Finnish radiologists say that prolonged exposure to the low radiation doses on the animal’s body often leads to the development of cataracts and other eye problems, leading to a complete or partial blindness. The biologists have found similar symptoms in birds and rodents, in which the eye disease occurred more frequently and was more severe in comparison with animals living in Chernobyl. Scientists emphasize that the cataract is a common consequence of chronic radiation. For animals of Chernobyl is also characteristically a decrease in brain size, an increased incidence of tumor development, a reduced fertility, as well as the prevalence of malformations in birds. In addition, the unfavorable radiological background also affects the number of animals. In way of conclusion, it needs to answer on asked question more definitely. The animals around Chernobyl station are more intoxicated because the radiation level is higher here. Proportionally, they have an upper probability of having some disease in comparison with other animals.
If to talk about the red forest Chernobyl animals, they could differ by irradiation level and illnesses (related to it). Nevertheless, t is complex to claim with 100% assurance, as animals in Chernobyl have the propensity to migrate.
How many Chernobyl animals today live in the zone?
In recent years, people said and written that the animals at Chernobyl became less. People do not see them as often as previously. Is it true? Probably, yes. However, the objective is not in the increasing quantity of Chernobyl animals today, but it is in reducing our ability to see it. It becomes more difficult to observe it. This area from year to year becomes more timber: yesterday’s growth is a youthful forest-stand now. The road plunged into the “tunnel”, the meadows turned into the woodlands and the groves. Many people underrate it. In general, there is no reason for concern. There are many animals in Chernobyl area, even more, some types increased in the quantity. The outcomes of the automatic photo and video filming fully reaffirm these statements. Over two decades of observations, the ecologists managed to make a lot of helicopter overflights of the affected area. (By the way, you can find “Chernobyl photos animals” from these researches on the internet sites) They counted traces of specimens and animals from Chernobyl, which they were able to see on the site. In addition, they have studied other factors, such as epidemics and various adverse weather conditions that can affect the quantity of Chernobyl animals. In fact, the number of wild boars, deer, roe deer, wolves and other large mammals decreased only in the first year after the accident. Then it began to grow, reaching the old marks in a couple of years. At the same time, the population of the certain animals rapidly declining in other areas. Such situation occurred with the moose. For them, the zone is a “pocket” in which these rare animals are preserved. Now, the strength of certain animals of Chernobyl reached record figures. For example, the percentage of wolves in the surrounding area is in 7 times higher than in Belarus reserves. The biologists observed something similar in populations of rodents and other small mammals. Another example, the ecologists recorded 14 kinds of bats on the exclusion ground, three of which are included in the international “Red Book”.
Indeed, some types of animals from Chernobyl disappeared. However, it logically disappeared: the white stork has changed in the black stork because the white storks live near people. On the contrary, the black stork avoids people; it needed the old large trees.
What will be with animals found in Chernobyl?
Chernobyl disaster animals and nature attracts the scholars and the tourists: now it is the most uninhabited (by beasts) and forested area of Europe. On these lands, characteristic Polissya species of the animals of Chernobyl settled down here. An increasing number of elk, deer, wolves, lynx, as well as Przewalski horses. These horses were brought here in the nineties. The ecologists planned that its will participate in the deactivation of the lands: eat grass on which settled radiation, thereby purifying the environment. The amount of unique species of mammals and birds is constantly increasing in the Chernobyl area. In many respects, there is a real sanctuary. The territory of the zone should become a biosphere reserve, except for a few central districts, where is the nuclear facility. A system of monitoring and protection of wildlife could be created here. The researchers said that it is the ideal and the smartest option, a chance to observe the wildlife. The diversity and the species composition of animals and plants are reduced, as well as natural communication. Let us summarize. It is not so easy to understand the effects of radiation impact on the environment. All living organisms are different to each other. Some effects manifested in the form of genetic mutations, which can affect the ability to survive and reproduce, but, it could do not influence too. Nature is complex and heterogeneous. Every point in space and time is significantly different. This is reflected for sunlight that it receives, the plants and animals living on the site, as well as the birds that fly there.
The radioactivity in the Chernobyl area is still a serious threat to human, but it has little effect on the development of Chernobyl animals and plant populations. Therefore, the life of nature quickly reborn, except for certain regions with high radiation levels. When you surf the internet in searching the Chernobyl animals documentary information, you surely have to now that the requests like “Chernobyl victims animals” or “Chernobyl disaster animals” have nothing common with Russia nuclear explosion! The animals affected by Chernobyl burst in Ukraine, but not because of Russia nuclear explosion.
